This is the larger version of the X-wing made by Takara. Takara did produce a smaller one which is about half the size of the large x-wing. The larger one is tougher than the smaller x-wing. This piece was only available in Japan in the mid 80's.
The pieces came on trees like in most models. The toy almost seems to be a model in some aspects. One of the greatest features about this X-wing is that there are little holes all over the body so the wings and cannons can be placed in different places to enhance play value. Many types of strange looking ships can be made from this Takara X-wing.
As a side note, the person this was purchased from this from thought it would be "cool" to have the insert signed by David Prowse (Darth Vader). It was not a smart idea becuase the X-wing has nothing to with Vader.
